News from the Haringey Chapter

Following our successful launch event in June, everyone has been working hard to match up authors with schools and to set up new Patron of Reading relationships in Haringey.

We are delighted to announce that Daniel Whelan has become patron of reading at North Harringay Primary School.

North Harringey students impress Daniel Whelan at the Patron of Reading: Haringey Chapter launch event

From Fortismere School, Sita Brahmachari writes:

Now almost four years on from our first planning meeting it’s time for me to hand over my Patron of Reading baton to another author – the fantastic S.F. Said acclaimed author of Varjak Paw and Phoenix.

In my own borough Haringey the Big Green Bookshop has set up ‘The Haringey Chapter.’ In a launch event this month Michael Rosen gave a talk about his own work as Patron of Reading. The aim of the Haringey project is to have a patron of reading in every Haringey School.

We will have more patrons to announce when the schools return in September. In the meantime, here are Sam Enthoven’s summer reading recommendations for students at Alexandra Park School, where he is patron of reading.

And finally, don’t forget this year’s Summer Reading Challenge for children and young people – available in your local libraries.
